The Spider-Within Review

Before I start I’ll just like to say that this will be a spoiler-free review since this hasn’t officially been released yet, so with that out of the way let’s get on with the review.

On March 29th 2023, Sony announced The Spider-within, a short film that sees Miles dealing with an anxiety attack, with the film taking place between Into the Spider-verse and Across the Spider-verse.

The short film has only been shown at film festivals, with VFX artist for Across the Spider-verse Blauereiter saying that due to copyright reasons the short can’t be released publicly yet.

But just like a lot of things, the short film managed to find its way onto the Internet and it was met with nothing but praise, and I can see why.

The spider-within perfectly shows how anxiety attacks should be dealt with within the media industry, even though the short is only 7 minutes long it uses each second to its advantage to display the horror-ish world anxiety attack can feel like, while also showing the struggles and aftereffects that Miles is going through due to having the responsibilities of being spider-man.

Due to this being a spoiler-free review on a film that’s only 7 minutes long, there’s not much else I can say, but unlike the show Velma, this film and Puss in Boots The Last Wish handles what an anxiety/panic attack feels and looks like and how to deal with it way more better than Velma did.

I hope this does eventually get released publicly as I strongly believe that the world should see the love, care and effort that went into this.

I’m going to end this review by giving it a 10/10.
