When The Lore is Better Than The Game: Spider-man 2: Enter Electro

Released on October 18th, 2001, exclusively for the PS1, Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro was a follow-up to the first Spider-Man game made by Neversoft, with the difference being that this game was developed by a studio called Vicarious Visions and not Neversoft.

As far as gameplay and story go, it’s mostly forgettable, with reviews saying that this game was a downgrade to the first Spider-Man game made by Neversoft, and as someone who’s also played the game, I agree.

It’s not a terrible game; it’s just forgettable, whereas the first game has memorable moments, a great story and cool cameos. Enter Electro lacks that.

But what this game lacks in gameplay and story makes up for in lore, mainly with the making of the game.

9/11

Top before 9/11, bottom after 9/11

Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro was originally meant to release on September 18, 2001, but due to the 9/11 terror attacks, the game was pushed back a month due to the final level being on the Twin Towers.

As you can see in the image above, the buildings were changed to a pair of buildings that connect.

Another change to the game that was made due to 9/11 was the level names, with the levels Crash Flight!, Downward Spiral, Aces High and Top of the World being changed to Wind Tunnel, The Corkscrew, The Gauntlet and The Best Laid Plans for obvious reasons.

I do need to note that there are rumours that Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro was released and recalled during August 2001, but that has never been confirmed.

Lost Thor Deleted Scene

On September 28, 2001, a deleted scene with Thor was uploaded onto the Spider-Man website. For years the deleted scene was lost to time and was considered nothing more than a myth until one day someone used the Wayback Machine (an Internet archive) and came across the deleted scene. Unfortunately, due to the Wayback Machine’s capabilities, they couldn’t play the video but were able to get a thumbnail of it.

It wasn’t until September 24, 2025, that a Reddit user revealed he had the deleted scene on a USB drive and released it to the Internet.

Here is the link to that video if you wish to watch it.
