6 MONTHS???? Venom Review

Ahh venom, the film that gave us the 6 months meme.

Released in 2018 as the first film in Sony’s New Marvel Universe, the film would go on to make $856.1 million at the worldwide box office. It would also receive poor to mixed reviews, with critics complaining about the dullness and messy story line while also praising Eddie and Venom’s relationship and chemistry.

When I first saw this film on opening night, me and my friends were hyped for it, and yes, although it does have its problems, if you can get past that, this is an enjoyable film.

So let’s start with the negatives. Up until Eddie meets Venom, this film does have a dull start, the story does feel a bit messy (but the mess does make it fun), the chemistry between Eddie and Anne kind of feels dead, and without Riot, Carlton Drake would just be a mid-character.

Now the positives: the relationship between Eddie and Venom is fun and amazing; they bounce off each other really well; Venom has some of the best scenes and lines; and I know people give Sony shit for the way they handled the Sony/Marvel universe (cough, cough, Morbius, and Madame Web). But I think they nailed Eddie and Venom’s relationship perfectly, to the point where I can see why this film has fans, and although again, this film does have its problems, if you can just forget about that and wind down, then this film is an enjoyable experience.

Also, Mrs. Chen is a great side character; if she’s not in Venom 3, I’m going to be pissed, as, just like Eddie and Venom, she also has great chemistry with both characters, and any scene she’s in is fun to watch.

Last thing, the sound track is also great. Who thought getting Eminem to repeat the same thing over and over again would make a great song?
